1994年に創業した比較的新しいブランドのMARNIはスイス人の女性デザイナーであるコンスエロ・カスティリオーニによってスタート。

有名なイタリアの毛皮メーカーであるCiwiFursの社長を務めるジャン・カスティリオーニを夫に持ちCiwiFursの一部門として始まったMARNIは、当初CiwiFursが得意とする毛皮や革製品のみの展開でしたが1996年から様々なアイテムを世に出し、ミラノコレクションに初参加。その後1999年よりCiwiFursから独立し独自のブランドとしての歩みを始める。
